The most commonly used plant for vegetable oil diesel is the rapeseed, also called canola. There is research into using sunflower oil because of its lower freezing point. There are island nations in the South Pacific that use coconut oil diesel fuel, because of the ready availability of coconuts and the desire to be independent of the oil-rich countries. The newer wind turbines can turn more quickly and generator power sooner than the bigger ones because they are much lighter. A wind generator must be pointed into the wind for it to generator energy. Generally, this is done with a rudder on the tail. With the larger wind turbines it took a strong wind to orient them before they could start spinning to generate power. In many cases they could miss a smaller wind completely and never generate electricity. The newer, less heavy wind generators can start spinning and thus producing electricity more quickly because of the lower requirement for wind to orient them. The result is that the older and heavier wind turbines might have been able to produce more power when they were spinning, but they were spinning less often. Because of this, these newer smaller wind generators can produce almost as much energy over the course of a year as these larger versions since they are spinning more consistently. Installation costs can be considerably less with these more receint wind generators because they can be mounted directly to roofs.
