Alternative energy, like solar power, is high on the agenda at the moment. This means people are starting to think about how does solar power work? Most people want to know if this is a system they could implement in their lives and whether or not it would actually meet their energy needs. Although the sun has been put to work for us for many centuries, it is only recently that we have begun to fully understand and use it power. Therefore the answer is yes. But what are some ways that we can actually use solar power?
Converting light into electricity is the most popular way of using solar panels. Solar power calculators is a prime example of using solar power technology, but the majority of people never stopped to consider the possibilities. In what way does this solar power really work? You can set up solar panels to catch light, and they convert it into energy. To power a hundred watt light bulb you will need a square meter of panels. It doesn’t sound like much to begin with, but how many meters of unused space do you have on your roof right now? Solar panels enable you to get free power from the sun using a system that does not utilise any usable space.
Solar water heaters are available as well. This type of solar power works by using the sun to heat water. This is achieved by pumping water through pipes that are painted a dark color so as the pipes are heated by the sun, the water inside also warms as well. Many companies claim to have water heaters that can provide approximately 90% of a household’s hot water. Some companies have designed their systems so that the water can be drained from the pipes in winter to stop the pipes from freezing, which is the only drawback to solar water heaters.
Solar furnaces are another type of solar power. Focusing the sun’s rays in the main job of a solar furnace. Does this type of solar power work effectively? Very hot temperatures can be reached by focusing the rays from the sun. Some scientists have used this type of heating to reach temperatures over 5400 degrees Fahrenheit. This type of heating does take a while though, but if you aren’t in a hurry it is a great way to heat things at no cost using home solar power systems.
