Domestic solar energy systems are mainly placed on roofs because that provides the best sunlight exposure. That being said, you may be concerned about whether the installation causes damage to the roof. Here are a few facts so you will know from the outset just what you will be getting into if you choose to install solar panels onto your roof.

Watch How To Make A Solar Panel

Most roofs are built to hold at least 8 to 10 pounds per square foot of pressure above and beyond the weight of the roofing material. That is usually more than sufficient weight bearing capacity to hold solar panels. That said, each house needs to be evaluated individually. A professional installer or building inspector can assess the capacity of your roof in bearing the solar panels.

Most installers attach the solar panel mounts to the beams. This makes the installation very secure and distributes the load better than when the mounts are fastened to roof decking. As rooftop installations have been done for over 30 years, professional installers are knowledgeable about the best methods to ensure stability and avoid damage.

Solar Panels: How Do I Protect My Roof From Damage? Watch How The Panel is Made. See For Yourself

Before scheduling your solar panel installation, consider the age and present condition of your roof. Since the mounts would be installed on the roofing material, they would need to be removed and reinstalled if you decide to replace your roof. So if you plan on replacing your roof within the next 5 to 10 years, consider replacing it before you install your new solar panel system. That way you can avoid the additional cost of removal and reinstallation.

If you are still leery about putting solar panels on your roof, a ground-mounted system may be the answer. The same criteria apply to selecting a solar panel array location whether on a roof or on the ground. They must receive enough sunlight during the day to generate the electricity that your house requires, and it must be devoid of anything that might block it from the sun. If your property has such a location, it might be a good alternative to roof installation.

If you were to fit solar panels on your home, could you just go “off grid” and eliminate the electric company completely? Not having to depend on the energy company for your electricity is an attractive notion. No more electric bills coming to your mailbox. No further dealings with the energy company for any reason. Is this possible for you and your family? The answer will very much rely upon the type of weather in your area and how much money you’re able to afford maintaining your own energy system.

The Net Metering Method of Going Off-Grid

Firstly, consider the prevailing weather in your part of the world. Is the prevailing weather in your area after you install solar panels on your home, they only generate electricity while the sun is shining on them. So you will require batteries for storing electricity for use at night and on cloudy days.

That’s where costs begin to add up. You’ll have to buy and maintain the number of large DC (direct current) batteries necessary to store one to three days worth of power for cloudy days. You’ll need ample storage space for all of those batteries, and you’ll have to plan for the expense of replacing them periodically.

Build Your Own Off-Grid Energy

In addition, having a backup generator is a good idea in case of extended periods of overcast weather that deplete the power stored in the batteries. The generator will require fuel, so you’ll need to store that also. Usually generators are powered by gas or diesel fuel. But that seems inconsistent with the “green” purpose of solar panels, so you’ll probably want to use biodiesel. So, yes, you can go “off grid”, but it’s not an easy or cheap project.

A more feasible solution may be “net metering.” You can check to determine if your local utility company offers this program. With net metering you can significantly lower your electric bill, and have all the power you need at night and during extended cloudy periods. Net metering allows you to receive credits back from the electric company for excess electricity that your solar panels generate during the day. Then, at night or on days when there is not enough sunlight, you simply use electricity supplied by your local utility company. You wouldn’t need to store banks of DC batteries in your basement or garage. Although you won’t be living “off grid”, you’ll save a significant amount of money on your monthly bill. Some months you may owe nothing!

The Off-Grid System To The Power Crises

So if you live on a large parcel of land and have an extra barn or outbuilding to store your DC batteries in, going “off grid” could be feasible for you. But if you live in a small place, have no large storage space, and you’re already parking your car on the street because the garage is too full, “net metering” will probably be your best bet.

Wind power generation at first glance seems to be an environmental issue. But reducing pollution is not the only reason for using wind power energy. There are economic benefits as well. There are plenty of reasons to go green with wind power energy. A guide like Energy 2 Green will teach you how to build your own wind power system and you will receive the cost saving benefit of using natural wind generation.

A lot of people do not remember that wind power generation is not a new idea. People have been using windmills for many years to generate electrical power and it has just been the past few years that it has become more popular and eco sensitive to product electrical energy.

Suitable Areas

Harnessing wind power is not possible in some areas. If you would like to have success with your wind farm, constant and reliable wind will be required. Not all areas benefit from windy conditions. This is why wind farms are often time built near the coast or open areas due to the frequent and continuous wind conditions found in these areas.

The approach to wind power is very straight foward plus the the operations is even simplier. Wind generators use props that are rotated by warm air that blows in the vicinity. The rotating props will product electricity by driving a generator. The idea is close to a dynamo but on an enormous scale.

Excellent Energy

The areas around a wind farm does not have to go to waste. Farmland will not have to be abandoned to make way for a wind farm. It is also a completely green energy that does not give out greenhouse gases. Using wind power will save you a lot of money, since wind power is not dependant on fuel.

Wind and solar power is great for remote areas that are not close to conventional power sources. As a matter of fact alot of farms are already producing their own electricity thru wind turbines. As with any other type of energy source, there are some disadvantages to using wind power energy.

Nearby homes can often suffer from disrupted television service. The wind turbines that are found on some older farms have been known to be very noisy. However modern windmills have eliminated this trouble. The benefits of adopting wind to generate electrical power far outweight the disadvantages.

We are all feeling the economic pinch and are all trying to find ways to save money. Looking for ways to make solar power is a great way for a family to save on their energy bills but can help save the earth as well. Finding the right renewable energy source for your area and your home is important. Are you wondering how you can start saving money month after month by building your own wind generator or where to find info on how to make solar energy for your household?

Stop giving your money each month to the various utility companies that supply you with electricity and natural gas. We have been made more aware today of our environment and the global economy. Currently there are less than 3% of American families using alternative energy methods. Our country and others around the world should be seeking ways to make solar energy and other types of renewable energy our primary sources of energy.

You are probably wondering if you have the ability to build your own device to make solar energy, you will be surprised to learn how easy it is. If you just take a little time for research you will soon learn that you can make solar energy for your home quite easily. If you don’t construct it yourself you will have to weed out a certified alternative energy installer.

There are also many “how to” guides like Earth 4 Energy that provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to build a solar panel or wind generator. You will also discover that it is much easier than you think to make solar energy and immediately start to realize huge savings on your utilities bills and protecting the environment at the same time. There are also solar hot water systems for the home. The recovery time is a bit slow but the savings will offset any inconvenience.

It is a fulfilling feeling to realize what an effect you are having on the global economy and environment by doing something as easy utilizing wind power or to make solar energy your energy source and saving moeny as well.
